He was born in the UK and obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in Canada – in geology, agriculture and computing. He has taught in geography, surveying and computing departments, and held an industrial chair in GIS applied to forestry. He spent five years teaching in Hong Kong and recently returned to the UK , where he holds an EU Chair at the University of Glamorgan . His particular research interests have been in spatial data structures and dynamic and 3D GIS.
