Welcome

The Nordic Summer School is a major activity organised by the NordGISci network. It is intended to provide a series of advanced workshops for young researchers. By young researchers we mean PhD students, licentiate students, and fresh postdoctoral researchers (PhD within 3 years). The workshops will be instructed by some leading researchers in the emerging field of Geographic Information Science. Young researchers from Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as from North Western Russia, are eligible, and therefore encouraged to apply for admission to the school. For those selected, we will provide full financial support including travel, accommodation and course materials.

This year's summer school (NordGISci'07) will include a set of themed workshops around "GIS for cities". Relevant topics include urban remote sensing, 3D geoinformation and geo-virtual 3D environments, GIS representation of population-based data, 3D geovisualization and geographic exploration systems, and satellite monitoring of urban landuse/land-cover change. The workshops will be conducted through organized lectures, labs or seminars. In addition, other informal workshops such as grant proposal preparation and scientific writing will be organized. Potential instructors for this year include Xiaojun Yang, Juergen Doellner, David Martin, Lars Bodum, and Yifang Ban.

To participate in the event, please send in your application form, and submit an abstract (about 300 words) about your current research. The submission should include title, name, affiliation, and abstract. We will have a post panel (0.80m wide by 1.8m high) for each of you, so prepare and design your poster at an appropriate size. We will keep your poster available on the designated poster panel during the period of the summer school, possibly with an organized session for you to introduce your research work summarized in your poster. Should you need to declare your travel expense, please download the Travel Expense Claim Form.
