The Nordic Summer School is a major activity organized by the NordGISci network. It is intended to provide a series of advanced workshops for young researchers. By young researchers we mean PhD students, licentiate students, and fresh postdoctoral researchers (PhD within 3 years). The workshops will be instructed by some leading researchers in the emerging field of Geographic Information Science. Young researchers from Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as from North Western Russia, are eligible, and therefore encouraged to apply for admission to the school. For those selected, we will provide full financial support including travel, accommodation and course materials.

This year's summer school (NordGISci'08, 18 - 22 August 2008, Gävle, Sweden) will provide a set of themed workshops around “GIS-based mobility information for cities”. The workshops include “People-based geographic information science” by Harvey Miller, “Wikification of GIS and its implications” by Daniel Sui, “Discrete choice modeling and its applications in transport and housing studies” by Donggen Wang, and “Tailoring maps for web-services” by Lars Harrie. This summer school is likely to be parallel with another Nordic school for cartographers, to be organized by the Swedish Cartographic Society. Thus we may organize some joint social events such as orienteering and tracking exercises.

To participate in the event, please send in your Application Form, and submit an abstract (about 300 words) about your current research. The submission should include title, name, affiliation, and abstract. Should you need to declare your travel expense, please download the Travel Expense Claim Form.
